Trezor Suite® | Starting Up Your Device | Trezor®

Quick presentation: a clear, user-friendly walkthrough to get your Trezor hardware wallet up and running with Trezor Suite®. Use the headings to scan or present slide-by-slide.

Introduction

What is Trezor Suite®?

Trezor Suite® is the official desktop and web application for managing your Trezor hardware wallet. It provides a secure interface to send and receive cryptocurrencies, manage accounts, and install firmware updates. This presentation outlines the essential steps to start your device safely and confidently.

Why follow this guide?

Following a structured startup flow reduces the chance of user error, protects your recovery seed, and ensures your device runs the latest firmware. The goal is to balance security with simplicity.

Before you begin

What you’ll need

Security checklist (quick)

Always verify packaging and holograms, confirm you downloaded Suite from the official site, and never share your recovery seed with anyone.

Step 1 — Install Trezor Suite

Choose desktop or web

Download the desktop app for the smoothest experience or use the web version at the official site. The desktop app offers native notifications and automatic updates.

Installation steps

  1. Visit the official Trezor Suite download page.
  2. Choose your OS (Windows, macOS, Linux) and install following on-screen prompts.
  3. Open Trezor Suite and allow the app to run checks for updates.

Step 2 — Connect and initialize your Trezor

Connect the device

Attach your Trezor to the computer using the USB cable. When the device is recognized, Suite will prompt you to start setup.

Initialize or recover

You will be offered two choices: create a new wallet (generate a new recovery seed) or recover an existing wallet using a recovery phrase. Choose Create new if this is your first time.

Set a device passphrase (optional)

A passphrase adds an extra layer of security. If you choose one, memorize it or store it securely — losing it means losing access to those funds.

Step 3 — Back up your recovery seed

Write it down (mandatory)

After the device generates your recovery seed (usually 12, 18, or 24 words), write the words in order on the provided recovery card. Do not photograph, screenshot, or store the seed electronically.

Verify the seed

Trezor will ask you to confirm several words from the seed to ensure you copied them correctly. Complete the verification onscreen and on-device prompts.

Step 4 — Update firmware and set a PIN

Firmware updates

After initial setup, check for firmware updates. Always update via Trezor Suite when prompted. Do not install firmware from third-party sources.

Setting a PIN

Choose a PIN when prompted. The PIN prevents unauthorized local access to the device and protects against physical theft. Use a non-trivial PIN and avoid obvious sequences.

Step 5 — Add accounts and manage coins

Adding an account

Within Suite, select the cryptocurrency you want to manage and create an account. Trezor Suite supports a wide range of coins and tokens; some assets may require third-party integrations.

Receiving funds

Always verify the receiving address both in the app and on your Trezor device screen before sharing it. This ensures the address hasn’t been tampered with by malware.

Tips, best practices, and recovery

Regular maintenance

Keep Trezor Suite up to date, periodically check firmware, and store your recovery seed in a safe location (bank safe, secure home safe).

What if you lose your device?

If your device is lost or damaged, your recovery seed restores access to funds on a new Trezor or compatible wallet. Treat the seed as the single point of failure — protect it accordingly.
